LAS VEGAS — Ever since their careers exploded around last year at this time, it's rare to see "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart doing anything other than slaving away on the sets of "New Moon" and the next sequel, "Eclipse." Now, Timbaland wants to give the sexy duo a chance to let their hair down on his next music video — and if anybody can make it happen, it's the Grammy-winning producer and rapper.

"I want certain people in the video," he revealed to us over the weekend at Justin Timberlake's charity concert, talking about "Morning After Dark," the first single off his upcoming album Shock Value 2, and featuring the new artist SoShy. "I want the same characters of 'Twilight,' which I've almost got."

Timbaland has spoken to us before about how Shock Value 2 was influenced by the world of Stephenie Meyer, and that "Morning After Dark" seizes on some of the darker themes in her world. Now he says he's on the verge of getting Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and possibly other "Twilight" stars to appear in the video.

"If I get Bella and Edward, it would be [ideal]," he explained. "I'm gonna give a twist to it, though."

Timbaland's twist would involve embracing the dark side of the vampire world while casting himself and friends in key roles, which he hopes will meld Forks with the aesthetic of Kate Beckinsale's hit vampire series.

"It would be almost, kind of like, 'Underworld,' " he explained. "Kind of like that movie, you won't know what we are. You don't know if we're vampires, but we are something. You know what I'm saying?"

Combining the what-are-they mysteries of the "Underworld" franchise with the romantic drama of "Twilight," Timbaland is convinced that RPattz and KStew could bring his music video the right tone. In his possible story line spun off from "New Moon," Timbaland and SoShy would appear as vampires offering Edward piece of mind as he flees for Italy.

"We would protect her while he goes away from the other dude (Jacob) and the other people (the Cullens)," he said, comparing the plot to developments we'll see in "New Moon" next month. "We was his last hope, he wouldn't want to use us, the whole thing. If [Edward] calls us it would be a big payback — a big price to pay to call my team of people to protect her. It's a whole little story line."

"And I have part two to the single too," Timbaland revealed, saying he'd hope to continue the plot in another video. "So it's like a whole little story line to it."

But for all those Twilighters out there who might be thinking about switching their three-letter exclamations from "OME!" to "WTF?" Timabaland says don't worry — he's a fanpire too.

"I've watched that movie and I watch 'True Blood' a lot — both of the seasons," he explained. "So I'm like, 'Man, this could be real ill,' because nobody's ever done nothing with music that assimilates this. So it will have to be dark.

"It could be a little fun at the same time," he promised Robsten, hoping they'll want to join forces with him. "Still dark, but still fun."

LAS VEGAS — When it comes to attracting big names for charity, Justin Timberlake has no trouble. Saturday night in Las Vegas saw the wide reach of JT's star power, with a diverse lineup of artists from Snoop Dogg to Taylor Swift taking part in his second annual Justin Timberlake & Friends Concert, benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. While last year's show boasted many onstage collaborations, Justin had high hopes for this year's event — which included the aforementioned Doggfather and country queen, plus Alicia Keys, TLC, Timbaland, Ciara and Jay Sean.

"There were a lot of acts this year that weren't able to get here till today, so there weren't as many collabs as I had in my brain," Timberlake told MTV News during rehearsals. "But I think that's always the case, it's kind of like [when] you do an album and you write, like, 40 songs, and then 12 of them make it. ... But still, just having everyone out and getting to see them do their set — there are a couple of things that have never been performed onstage. There's a new song from [Timbaland] tonight, from his record that we did together. I think Snoop's doing a new song from his new record. So it's kinda cool for them too, because it's like perfect test marketing."

The night saw Justin wearing many hats (including a fedora) — acting as emcee, performer and maestro. He even kept the crowd updated with the Yankees/Angels score in between sets. But the fans were there for music, and they sure got their money's worth.

Jay Sean kicked off the night's performances, accompanied by U.K. beatbox champion MC Zani. The duo took a different take on the British singer's current hit, "Down," starting off with a beatbox intro and acoustic guitar, until launching into a full version of the song with Justin's band — which served as the house band for the whole evening.

Next up was Taylor Swift, and Justin assured everyone that there would be no Kanye-style stage crashing on his watch. "Don't worry, guys, I got security on the sides, so no one can come up and ruin her set," Timberlake told the crowd.

As soon as Swift hit the opening notes of "You Belong With Me," she had the crowd on their feet. Her raucous set was full of hair tosses and hip swings, impressive for the silver dress she performed in, dripping with what looked like diamonds. Her set got even more dazzling when she strapped on a shimmery acoustic guitar for "Love Story."

Justin introduced the next artist as "one of the greatest musicians of my generation." Alicia Keys then strutted across the stage in a stunning pair of red pumps, and took a seat at her piano to belt out "Doesn't Mean Anything." After the song, Alicia addressed the crowd.

"I wanna tell you a little about myself, where I'm from," she said, launching into the hook from "Empire State of Mind" then going right into "Fallin'," which sounded even more impressive with the house band's backup singers. The Mandalay Bay Events Center could barely contain the energy.

For the next performance, JT told the crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen, asses up, give it up for the one and only, legendary T-L-C!" Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas' first performance in six years sent the crowd into a frenzy, as the duo tore through a barrage of hits — "FanMail," "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," "What About Your Friends," "Baby Baby Baby," "Creep," "Waterfalls" and "No Scrubs." While founding member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes is no longer with us, her presence was still in the room as her vocals were filled in by live performance footage on the screen.

The next performance brought the night's first on-stage collaboration. After Justin got the crowd moving to "Señorita," he welcomed Ciara onstage for "Love Sex Magic." The crowd stayed on their feet for the rest of Ciara's set — "Goodies" and "1, 2 Step."

Next up was Snoop Dogg, who performed "Drop It Like It's Hot," "What's My Name" and new single "Gangsta Love." Continuing the night's collaborations, Snoop told the crowd, "Since my homeboy Justin asked me to come out here tonight, I'm gonna ask him to come out right now." The guys broke into "Signs," doing a little two-step action.

Justin took the reins, jumping into a medly of "Summer" and "Chop Me Up," with Timbaland coming out to do his verse on "Chop." Tim stayed on stage for "Give It to Me," which had girls spilling into the aisles to dance. The duo then broke into the brand-new song that Justin had promised, the title of which they never announced. It features an anthemic chorus with the lyrics "Turn me on now" and a breakdown that repeats "What's your name?/ What's your number?/ I'm glad I came, so you can take my order."

Two hours into the show, it was time for Justin to take over. JT launched into an acrobatic mash-up of hits — both his and other artists'. It started with an acoustic rendition of "Like I Love You," then transitioned to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" during the "Like I Love You" chorus. Next was Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody," mixed with the lyrics of "Cry Me a River," then going back to the KOL chorus. "Lovestoned" followed, blended with Coldplay's "Viva la Vida."

The night seemingly was coming to an end as Justin sat down at a piano for a heartfelt performance of "What Goes Around ... /... Comes Around," but although he announced it was his last song, he changed his mind.

"I'm in the mood," he told the Vegas crowd. He shouted to his band to freestyle on the next song, and they settled on "Until the End of Time."

The show ended just shy of midnight, capping off another successful year for Justin and his charity. Honors are especially due for Justin's bandmembers, who spent nearly three hours on stage backing up the night's performers.

Other than Jay-Z's Blueprint 3, Timbaland says he's been taking a break from working on outside production. He wanted to focus on his own LP, Shock Value 2, due November 23.

Tim says the first single is coming in "a couple of weeks" and, although he wouldn't divulge the title, he did say it was inspired in part by the world's most popular vampire franchise, "Twilight."

"This record, it's interesting," he said of the upcoming single. "It's very interesting — [it features] this new artist on my label called SoShy from Paris. We're both rapping. The song, I can't describe it, it's so different. It's not different for me, but I can tell you this — it fits everything going on with the vampire theme. It fits everything with 'Twilight.' "

Timbo is keeping an eye on all things hot, even vampires.

"I'm up on all that. 'True Blood,' [the song] fits in that way," he added. "It's a dance record, but it's a dope dance record. It's rap."

Shakira, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and Paramore are among the many rock/pop acts he has on the record. On the hip-hop side of things, he says to look for new stuff from Drake and another female he wants to introduce, Brand New.

"She's gonna shock the world," Tim explained about Brand New. "People are gonna be like, 'Wow.' You either gonna be like, 'Wow' or 'Wait a minute.' "

Jack Black, what did you get yourself into? The funnyman walked in on an interview with Kid Cudi, Swizz Beatz and Fonzworth Bentley at Sunday night's Video Music Awards. Who knew Bent had jokes that would knock Black off balance? We also hollered at Timbaland at the VMAs. There's a little bit of controversy about his collaborations with Jay-Z on The Blueprint 3. Tim's tracks were the first to leak, but the super-producer doesn't talk like he's stressing anything. He said him and Jay set the bar when it comes to their collabos. Finally, Trick Daddy is putting out his album tomorrow. Daddy Dollars is keeping it real street these days.

Essential Info: Trick Daddy isn't appreciating his album getting bootlegged but stills feel confident his "real" fans will cop his new disc.

"I done seen worst. Independent is a lot different because how radio changed and the Internet has taken over. I watch some of the video channels, and it's totally all gimmicks," he said. "It's detrimental for hip-hop. But you know, I do it strictly for the thugs."

Trick is excited about the early feedback he's received, especially on a record called "Tears of a Grown Man."

"That's like another 'Thug Holiday,' " he said. "Everybody talks about how 'Thug Holiday' grew on them and stayed with them. On 'Tears,' I talk about what's really going on in the world with no strings attached. I talk about how I'm so proud to have a black president.

"At least I can say a black family will be protected for the rest of their lives," he added about the Obamas. "We owe you to protect you and your family. The record also stresses the importance of my new governor of Florida [Charlie Crist]. He's gonna come in and improve everything Jeb Bush left behind ... or face the consequences from the voters.

Timbaland said he and Jay-Z are like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. If Jay doesn't have some of Timbo's famed beats on his album, something is missing. Tim worked on "Venus vs. Mars," "Reminder" and "Off That" from Hov's Blueprint 3 LP.

"I'm out there more than he is. I know what the kids want," Tim said of their chemistry. "That's what I bring to the table. I bring that umph outta him. Listen to the album. I bring something outta him."

One big question remains for fans: Why is there no Drake verse on "Off That"? Drizzy simply does the chorus. Tim — who said his own album, Shock Value 2, will be coming in November — told us he doesn't have a good answer.

"You gotta ask him. It should have been [on there]," he said of Drake's missing rhymes. "But I thought, to me, we took [Drake] out of his element. But he said that was good to him. I said, 'Oh, sh--, let's go back and get him in the verse.' But that ain't my project. If it was up to me to redo it, I'd redo it that way."

Tim wasn't aware that Jay is back in the lab working on an "experimental" follow-up to Blueprint 3 but didn't rule out working with the Jiggaman once again. ...

Jay-Z's "Answer the Call" show at Madison Square Garden last week was one for the record books. People are still reliving the moments through conversations and the footage that's everywhere online.

Two of the stars of the show spoke about it on the red carpet of the VMAs this past Sunday. Swizz Beatz said, "I haven't seen it, being in that moment, I was happy to be a part of that history. Even if I sat onstage and crossed my arms, but to have a song with Hov, I was just happy to be there."

Kid Cudi, who performed "Already Home" with Jay, just hoped he didn't make any mistakes. "I said, 'If I mess this up, Jay-Z is gonna make fun of me for the rest of my life, the rest of my career,' " he thought back. "It was a point where it felt like a movie. I looked up, saw the fans and said, 'I hope I don't mess this up.' Then I went up there and did my thing."

The checklist of things Drake has been able to accomplish in his young career reads like the résumé of a seasoned veteran. Record with Jay-Z? Check. Record with Eminem, Lil Wayne and Kanye West? Check.

Who else is left for the Toronto MC to collaborate with? Well, if Drake has his way, he'll have plenty more blockbuster tracks coming out.

"I'm trying to make this song happen, man," he told DJ Drama when he called in to his Hot 107.9 Gangsta Grillz Radio show on Thursday (August 27). "It'd mean the world to me. I'm trying to make this happen for my album. It'd be me, Andre 3000 and Sade."

The trio would make for a formidable and intriguing lineup on any song. Drake didn't go into much detail about the pending track. While he was speaking with Drama, Drake revealed he was in Los Angeles working with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland in the studio.

Despite being surrounded by so much talent, however, Drake reminded listeners for his debut, Thank Me Later — now tentatively due in early 2010 (he's hoping for a release near Valentine's Day, he said) — he wants to carry the bulk of the project by himself.

"I know that I have to carry the majority of the weight by myself," he said. "The features have to be carefully picked. I could call on every favor that's owed to me or to everybody that's reached out and said they wanna work. But that may be a silly decision on my part. Because I don't wanna take away from myself carrying my first album. So that record [potentially with Andre 3000 and Sade] is something important to me. Obviously [I'm gonna work with] Wayne. I'm out here really trying to get something special with Justin. Hovito [Jay-Z], we might need to get him. The track on this album was a real catchy joint. But people wanna hear us rap together. That's one of my goals, to have that track with me and Jay. Maybe don't even have a hook, maybe. Have just like you haven't heard him in a minute, just going bars for bars. That might be something you'll hear on the album."

For Mariah Carey's forthcoming album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, she tried to mix up her collaborators, working not only with some familiar faces, but also one superproducer she hadn't had the opportunity to work with in the past.

"I worked with Timbaland for the first time," Carey told MTV News recently. "I'm a fan of Timbaland's, so I enjoyed it. [The song] hasn't even been mixed yet but I think it's really cool."

For the album, due in September, Carey also worked with artist/producer The-Dream on her controversial single, "Obsessed," as well as longtime collaborator Big Jim Wright.

"I worked with Big Jim Wright, who works with Sounds of Blackness a lot, and so there's live-feeling songs on the album," she explained. "A lot of my fans, since I've been twittering, a lot of the fans are like, 'We want some live-sounding stuff,' so you have to find that middle ground."

But unsurprisingly, working with Jermaine Dupri seems to hold a special place in Carey's heart. The pair have created many hits together, including "We Belong Together" and "Sweetheart."

"I worked with JD again," she said. "I always love working with Jermaine. Every time it's just ... it reminds me of the first time we worked together, which was 'Always Be My Baby.' Once you do a song like that and you have it forever, you wanna just continue to try and re-create that magic, so that's what we do."

Just hours after news broke that Michael Jackson had died of cardiac arrest, several artists — Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland and Fat Joe — and two reverends — Al Sharpton and Rev Run — called in to MTV to talk about the singer's life and legacy for the show, "Michael Jackson: A Tribute."

"I knew Michael since the mid-'70s," Al Sharpton recalled. "But we got tight in the '80s because by then James Brown had kind of adopted me as a son, and Michael was a James Brown fanatic. He used to always come to see James Brown ... I remember though, the thing that was kind of spooky to me this afternoon, I remember I got a call in the middle of the night before James Brown's last funeral, and it was the mortician saying that Michael wanted to visit the funeral home. ... He viewed the body and we convinced him to stay for the funeral and he spoke at the funeral.

"He talked about how he hopes that as a legend James Brown will get the due in death he never got in life, and I felt the same way about Michael. I hope now the genius and humanity of Michael Jackson gets its due."

Timbaland, who sounded very upset when he spoke on the show, said, "He was just a fabulous guy. Phenomenal. I watched him as a kid and I was like, 'Man, he works very hard.' His music was incredible. Everybody from Chris Brown to everybody who started dancing — he influenced all of that."

Fat Joe called in to remember the effect that Jackson's music had on him in his youth. "This is probably [among] the top three worst days of my life. MJ — you know I'm a gangsta rapper so we always got that hard edge, but at the end of the day, the king is the king.

"I can go down the list: there wouldn't be no Usher, there wouldn't be no Chris Brown. There wouldn't be nobody without MJ. There wouldn't be no Justin. He was just harmony on Earth. I never think MJ ever did anything wrong in his life. He was just a beautiful soul on this earth."

Rev Run and Snoop Dogg both called in to the show and recalled Jackson's strong sense of pride in his career and with his fans. "The thing that went through my mind was that he lived so big. He just worked it so hard. He was such a big imagination. He danced, he sang, he pushed so hard to entertain us," Rev said. "He was so driven that it was really amazing. I think the best thing that Michael will leave is his ability to captivate people. He captivated us."

Snoop Dogg added, "I feel like his music will never die and his spirit will never die, because he influenced so many if us. He gave us a lot of hope that we feel like we can be big. He was very inspiring and up close and personal with his fans. That to me was special. That's one of the things that I loved about Mike. When I got a chance to meet him, that's the feeling and spirit that I got from him."

NEW YORK — No fair; 50 Cent is cheating.

Well, it's not really cheating when you have producers such as Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Polow Da Don working on your album. Fif is stacking the deck for his current incarnation of Before I Self Destruct. Fif is on his third different production of the album, and he said the third time's the charm.

"I feel like my album is as close to perfect as it's gonna get," 50 told MTV News last week. "I'm reaching the point to where if I have to continue to write it, I'll be overkilling it. That's why I gave myself other writing assignments, like the War Angel [mixtape], like the '90s [tape] Sincerely Southside Part 2 and our actual G-Unit mixtape I'm doing with [Lloyd] Banks and [Tony] Yayo."

Fif said reconnecting with Timbaland for Before I Self Destruct has been a unique experience.

"When me and Timbaland go in, a lot of times it's a compromise," Fif said. "He's doing things that's a little different production-wise from what I would usually do. Like 'Ayo Technology' — you never heard me rap with that cadence. That beat was actually for Justin [Timberlake]. It was golden, some sh-- he had on the side, and he gave it to me. I went and did it. Justin laid the hook to it."

Timbo will go in the studio and mumble a melody and tell Fif to pen lyrics with that flow, which 50 said is easy for him.

"I could put lyrics to any melody," the G-Unit General said. "I can write a rap song, I can write an R&B song, I can write whatever type of song. If you put a note on it where I can hear it, man, I can write that. We did that, and that's how I came up with that new cadence for 'Ayo Technology.' We did that a couple of times while we was on there working [on Before I Self Destruct]. It's fun that way to have him participate with me.

"Even if you ain't got the words," 50 added. "You're up there, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.' Tim will be like, 'I can't believe that. He was able to make everything I just made a noise into a real cadence.' I seen him take pens or pencils into a cup and put it into a shaker. I'm sure nobody else has shaker sounds like that. ... I seen some interesting things from Timbaland."

Polow also worked on the new album, but he had music prepared for 50 before the MC came to the studio. Before I Self Destruct drops in September.

For a person who's proud to own neither a computer nor a cell phone, one doesn't expect to hear the name "Timbaland" at the top of Stevie Nicks' list of potential collaborators. When we asked legendary Fleetwood Mac frontwoman about rumors that she was interested in working with Timbaland, she exclaimed, "Oh, I would love to!" But as far as what their work together might sound like, she replied, "Well, I don't really know, so that's why it's exciting."

While this might be news to some of her fans, Nicks — who is currently on tour with Fleetwood Mac and released the concert DVD "Live in Chicago" on Tuesday — said she's long been a fan of R&B, "I learned to sing to R&B artists, not rock and roll or country artists," she said. "That was my first love, strangely enough. I am really very, very R&B, for my own music. When I'm listening just for my own fun, when I'm dancing around my apartment, I'm pretty much listening to R&B," she continued, noting that she's a fan of both contemporary and classic artists in the genre.

That love came into play more than two decades ago, when she collaborated with Prince. The story began on the first night of her honeymoon with Kim Anderson, to whom she was briefly married. "I'm driving to my honeymoon night in Santa Barbara from L.A., and 'Little Red Corvette' comes on," she recalled. "We're like oh my God, it's Prince! So I start singing all these words, and I'm like, 'Pull over, we have to get a cassette player! And we have to record this!' I'm writing in the car — here we are, newlyweds, and we get to our hotel and we're setting up the tape recorder and I've made up my whole new melody to [the song]. So I haven't really ripped off the song, because I'm admitting that I have done this. So we go into a studio in Los Angeles a couple weeks later and I track down Prince's phone number — and because I'm Stevie Nicks, I can get it.

"I call him, and I never thought he was going to answer, or that it would be him, or that I would ever find him — and he answers. I said, 'Prince, this is Stevie Nicks, and I wrote a song to your song 'Little Red Corvette,' and we're at Sunset Sound right now, and I was wondering — first of all, I wanted to tell you that I'm giving you 50 percent of [the royalties] it if it ever goes anywhere, but are you in town? If you are, how would you feel about coming down and playing on it?' Never in a million years did I think this man would be like, 'I'll be right there.' He was there in 20 minutes and he played [she mimes instrumental parts of the song] on 'Stand Back,' and he was there an hour and a half, and then he left."

But that was far from the end of their musical relationship. "Prince and I became really good friends," she said, "and he actually gave me a cassette, and said, 'There's a song on it, and I would like you to write.' I take it home and put it on, and I'm listening to this like amazing song ... and it's 'Purple Rain'! And I'm like, I can't write a song to this! It [wasn't] 'Purple Rain' yet, but it [was] the track that became 'Purple Rain.' "

Times have changed since in the past 25 years, but Nicks is still writing new music, and thinking of new collaborators, like Timbaland. When asked what he might think of her interest in working with him, Nicks laughed and said, "Of course, he'll hear about this and go 'Oh my God, why in the world?' "

Rihanna performs at Timbaland's pre-Grammy party

Just one night before an alleged physical altercation with boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna was onstage performing at Timbaland's pre-Grammy party. Tim and Rihanna were celebrating the release of a "Rehab" remix, along with guests Keyshia Cole, Jay-Z, T.I., Omarion and Brown.

"Bum bum be-dum, bum bum be-dum bum," Rihanna's background singers sang to kick off Rihanna's performance of "Disturbia."

Brown looked on from his VIP section and later made his way to the dance floor, where he stood with his friend Omarion.

"Los Angeles, I know y'all know how to party," Rihanna told the crowd. "Let me know you're ready to party with me."

Her plea led to "Don't Stop the Music"; the audience clapped along to the unstoppable beat. "Umbrella" was her closer. She started off acoustic, then the band kicked in for the radio version.

Rihanna's next performance was scheduled to be at the Grammys on Sunday, but she and Brown both had to bow out of the show.

The news of trouble between the couple has sent their fans, friends and family members reeling.

"All I will say is, it's so devastating," Kanye West told Ryan Seacrest during his Tuesday morning radio show. "I feel like, just as a person, I don't care how famous she is, or even if she worked at McDonald's, that should have never happened. It should have never come to that place."
