The 37th annual American Music Awards have lined up a few more acts to take the stage at the show on November 22. Green Day, Shakira, and Mary J. Blige have joined the performers list, which includes Rihanna, Jay-Z and Adam Lambert, to name a few, for the awards show that will air live on ABC.

"We're very excited about having Green Day, Rihanna, Shakira, Mary J. Blige and Keith Urban all performing on one stage," AMAs producer Larry Klein said in a statement. "Each year, we try to have a variety of artists and sounds, and I think these performers really showcase the depth of what this show brings to its fans."

The night's other big performers include Lady Gaga, Eminem, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas.

The awards show will feature an array of nominees determined by data from Nielsen SoundScan radio and retail figures, with Taylor Swift in the lead with six nominations, followed by Eminem and the late Michael Jackson at five apiece. Though Jackson had not released new material for nearly a decade at the time of his passing, his nominations are based on the strong sales of his catalog albums following his death.

Swift's nominations include Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Album (for Fearless), Favorite Female Pop or Rock Artist and Favorite Female Country Artist. MJ was also recognized in the Pop or Rock Artist of the Year category, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album (for Number Ones). Em's nominations include Artist of the Year; Favorite Male Pop or Rock Artist; Favorite Male Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album (for Relapse).

Other multiple-category nominees include Lady Gaga, T.I., Kings of Leon, Beyoncé and the Peas, who all have three. For the third year, winners will be determined by online voting.

"Ugly Betty" is about to get a lot more beautiful. Shakira will play herself in an upcoming episode of the ABC comedy.

"We're huge fans of Shakira," show creator Silvio Horta told People, adding that the cameo springs from a moment in the show's first season. "We had a very memorable moment in the third episode where Betty has a makeover that goes wrong and she struts down the street to 'Hips Don't Lie.' "

Horta said the Colombian superstar was perfect for the show about a young Latina woman, Betty (America Ferrera), trying to make it in the cutthroat world of fashion magazines. "We've mentioned her several times over the course of the series and have always wanted to work with her. She's an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit."

In the episode titled, "The Bahamas Triangle," Shakira helps fix a "Mode" fashion shoot that got off track on location in the Bahamas (where, incidentally, the singer recorded her upcoming album, She Wolf).

Shakira is only one of the big names stopping by "Ugly Betty" this season. Supermodel Christie Brinkley will join the show as Penelope Graybridge, an editor at a competing magazine, and according to E! Online, Kristen Johnston will be guest starring in the role originally meant for Paula Abdul.

It seems like a fashion catastrophe to have two huge pop stars show up to the same event in the same dress. And if those stars are Pink and Shakira, that event is the 2009 VMAs, and they arrived on the red carpet within minutes of each other, that might be an even bigger disaster. But on the bright side, that dress was the smoking-hot Balmain leather-and-metal number, and now we have an excuse to debate which lady wore it better.

We took the debate to the streets — more specifically to the Bryant Park tents — and asked the many experts attending New York Fashion Week to weigh in on this important face-off. "Well, they both look great," Kendall told MTV News. "I like Shakira's version of it; she looks cool. She just has it more accessorized, 'cause with the boots you can kind of see [that]. Although, Pink's earrings look neat. I think [Shakira] looks cute with her hair down."

Corey Moran also decided that the acrobatic Pink had the look in the bag. "I'm gonna have to go with Pink, only because she had stuff to bring with it," he said of the "So What" singer. "Shakira [wore] the dress and kind of normal, almost boring hair. I think that Pink really put the whole outfit together."

Fellow Fashion Week attendee Deandre went for the feisty She Wolf in the dress. "I'm gonna have to say Shakira. Pink is hot too, but Shakira hands down. Shakira just has this sexiness about her that is just there. She embodies what a sexy woman is," he said. "But they both looked great, though. They both were hot."

But Pink got a vote based on personality, too. "Pink!" asserted a fan named Brad at the tents. "Pink's personality matched the dress — a little hard-core, heavy rocker. And Shakira, I still think she has that Latina vibe, [but] I think the dress is a little more hard-core."

With one of the more successful collaborations in radio history under her belt, it's only natural that Latin crossover queen Shakira, would return to working with her old friend Wyclef Jean for her forthcoming album, She Wolf, due out this fall.

When MTV News caught up with Wyclef in his New York recording studio recently, he conceded that yes, the pressure was on for their new material. After all, their 2006 hit "Hips Don't Lie" landed the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, spent 25 weeks on the chart, has over 2 million digital downloads and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

"I mean, you know, unfortunately my life is based around pressure," Jean said. "But you gotta treat it like Kobe Bryant, you know? Just go in and play the best game you can. And if you don't make it to the championship this year, you'll be back next year."

Of course, the chemistry between the two artists certainly makes it easier to cook up a monster hit. The pair forged a friendship over the course of the "Hips" recording sessions. They shared experiences of their childhood in the developing world, as well as of becoming two of the most commercially successful champions of global music.

"I have a natural chemistry with Shakira," Wyclef explained. "I love the Latin vibe. The Lebanese vibe. I love the multicultural aspect of the CD. These days it's hard for you to pick up a CD and love it from beginning to end. Shakira represents that 360 degrees of: You put it in, and the whole CD rocks."

The exact number and titles of the tracks Wyclef produced for She Wolf have yet to be confirmed. Pharrell Williams, John Hill and RedOne have also been named as producers on the album. Hill produced the album's first single, "She Wolf," which was co-written by the Bravery's Sam Endicott.

On Thursday night, much to the delight of her fans and lycanthropes everywhere, Shakira premiered the video for her totally batty, completely amazing new song "She Wolf."

And while most of the chatter has (somewhat understandably) centered on her howling, hanging and hip-popping, we'd be remiss if we didn't point out that the song itself is actually pretty mind-blowing too: a whirling, pulsating take on the slinky Italian disco tracks of the '70s and '80s, the kind of thing you just don't hear in pop tunes anymore. But given the instant success of "She Wolf," it's a style we expect to be emulated by producers everywhere any day now.

You'd probably never guess it, but the song is the brainchild of none other than Sam Endicott, frontman of New York electro act the Bravery, who, along with producer John Hill, created the track mostly on a whim.

"I'm friends with John Hill. He and I co-produced the new Bravery album, and in the process of that, we would just make beats and stuff on the side. Just mainly for fun," Endicott explained to MTV News. "We've done a lot of it, and somehow, Shakira contacted him, asking if he had any stuff. ... We never had her in mind. We just made the thing independently of her, and then she liked it a lot, and she sang over it. She used some of the melodies we put in there and then wrote these crazy lyrics about being a werewolf. And that's how it happened."

If Endicott seems rather dumbfounded by the entire process, well, he is. And it gets even weirder. Not only did Shakira snag "She Wolf" from the duo, she also took two more tracks from them, which might end up on her much-anticipated new album, due in October. Though the whole thing happened pretty quickly, Endicott witnessed enough to be plenty impressed with Shakira's commitment to the project — and to making really bizarre pop tunes.

"When I first heard her singing on the song, I really liked it, because it's f---ing weird for a pop song. She definitely has a strange lyric sense. This isn't the first song she's done with some bizarre lyrics in it," he laughed. "I like the idea of a werewolf. And when I heard her idea for the song, I was like, 'You gotta have her howl at the moon at some point,' and she did it. She's a subtle wolf."

But even though he's suddenly found success penning songs for other artists, Endicott doesn't see himself changing careers anytime soon — not with a new Bravery album in the final stages (it's due later this year), at least.

"I don't look at it like [some new career]. It's more that I really like music, regardless of the genre. I just really like making it, I like being involved with it, I like being around creative people," he said. "If there was a country band right now that wanted to have me come in and play bass, I'd say, 'F--- yeah.' Or if there was a metal band that ... you know, someone was talking to me about working with Priestess at one point. I would love it."

And though Endicott admits to being probably the only person on the planet who has yet to watch the "She Wolf" video, he's heard it's "really great." Though, if he's being honest, he's a little disappointed that director Jake Nava didn't come to him for creative input on the clip, because he had a totally killer treatment in mind.

"I was hoping they would do the video like 'Teen Wolf,' " he laughed. "Like I was hoping she could be playing basketball and turn into a werewolf and dunk on some people. ... That would be great."

On Thursday (July 30), Shakira premiered her brand-new, much-anticipated "She Wolf" video on MTV.com (and at 8 p.m. on MTV). And having now watched it about 15 times, I'm hard-pressed to say more than "Wow!" Seriously, it's one people will be talking about for a long time.

Why? Well, basically because it's either the most insanely brilliant (or brilliantly insane) song you'll hear in 2009. The beat could best be described as a gloriously slinky update on every Italian disco tune recorded in 1979: all slithering beats, funky bass, horny horns, snapping snares and even a handclap or 13. Lyrically, there's the fact that Shakira uses the term "lycanthropy" and, seconds later, compares herself to a coffee machine (both of which are surely firsts in the history of pop music). Oh, and in the chorus, she howls at the moon.

Somewhat inexplicably/ unexpectedly, the song was co-written by John Hill — who helmed portions of Santigold's debut disc — and Sam Endicott, the frontman from the Bravery. "She Wolf" is reportedly a taste of what's to come from Shakira's new album, which hits stores in October and also features production work from Pharrell and Wyclef Jean. Shakira has gone on record saying she drew inspiration from Canadian electro-act Crystal Castles (who are infamous for drinking blood and doing stuff like this at shows) for the record. So, needless to say, it should be interesting.

Anyway, that's all the nerdy music journo stuff. Here's a major reason why "She Wolf" is so eye-catching: Shakira's posterior. She's already touted her hips, but, really, her booty is the breakout star of the video. It pops, locks, drops, sways and — in one key scene — seems to swell to nearly three times its original size.

"I start doing all kinds of outrageous stuff and hanging upside down and doing stuff that wasn't planned," Shakira told MTV News about the video. "But it was kind of an improvisation. I just got caught in the moment."

Really, Shakira has taken the art of body-contorting to new (somewhat unsettling) highs in "She Wolf." She herks and jerks, folds herself in half, torques vertebrae, lifts legs over her head, pops her shoulders in and out of their sockets, hangs upside down, nearly topples over ... the list goes on and on. She out-dances everyone in the business, and even manages to out-Beyoncé Beyoncé.

And really, that's what "She Wolf" reminds me most of: a really great, really crazy Beyoncé tune (like "Single Ladies," or, more recently, "Sweet Dreams"). The beat is great, the moves otherwordly (not to mention painful-looking), the vocal ticks are inexplicable. This song is batsh-- and brilliant, too. Without a doubt, Shakira is back, and badder (or at least battier) than ever.

Shakira in a flesh-toned swimsuit, thrashing around in a golden cage, hanging upside down from the shimmering bars. Shakira reaching out her fingernails to claw you as she flexes and struts inside a sparkling ruby-red cave. What?

It's the pop star's brand-new video for her single "She Wolf," naturally, which premiered Thursday (July 30), and as she told us recently, "I got new moves!"

New ones? The 32-year-old has been making a living by popping off a dizzying array of shaking, shimmying and belly-dancing acrobatics onstage and in videos since she was a teenager in Colombia. No one would complain if she busted out some old faves. After all, those old moves are some pretty fine ones. But a new album — her She Wolf comes out in October — brings with it the impulse to find fresh ways to dance.

"The music sort of dictates them to me," she said. "Every song has the moves within it. Just like the rock has the shape of the sculpture within the rock. You just have to go find it."

So how does Shakira find it? Sometimes she creates a one-woman movie studio. "I set up a camera on a tripod, and I put the music on, and I just start dancing and moving and whatever comes out, that's what I try to recapture again," she said. "For my videos and so on."

For "She Wolf," Shakira incorporates elements of ballet, popping and locking, tribal dance and moves that are reminiscent of those in the '80s drama "Flashdance." One thing is clear: Shakira is crazy flexible, and the metaphor of the she-wolf — "the woman at daytime and the animal at night," she explained — has given the singer an opportunity to express herself in a way she never has before.

"This woman starts a journey going into her own closet," she said, explaining the video's concept. "She is in this surreal kind of world where other fun things happen. She's just having fun. And there is also this other metaphor of the cage — the golden cage and the woman.

"I just wanted to express what it feels like for a she-wolf to be in captivity," she continued. "To be in a golden cage. I think I've been in a golden cage most of my life. And now not anymore."

But briefly, when Shakira stepped back into that cage, she seemed to connect with something deeper within herself. "I start doing all kinds of outrageous stuff and hanging upside down and doing stuff that wasn't planned," she said. "But it was kind of an improvisation. I just got caught in the moment."

When darkness falls and the moon rises overhead, pint-size Latin songstress Shakira can get dangerous. At least, that's what happens in the fantastical world of her upcoming electronica-heavy album, She Wolf, a title that captures the volatility, vivacity and don't-mess-with-me vision with which she's infused her new music.

"She-wolf is the woman at daytime and the animal at night," the singer explained to MTV News. "She is a woman who knows what she wants and she goes for it. She's in touch with her most subconscious desires and she satisfies them — and she defends her freedom and her liberties and she does it with her teeth and claws, like a wild animal."

On the set of the music video for the "She Wolf" single, helmed by in-demand director Jake Nava, Shakira had to keep her composure while real-life wolves circled and sniffed at her heels. "One of these wolves wasn't amicable at all," she said. "He was a little bit of an antisocial wolf. The other one was a little bit manageable. But it was all fine. I think I was the most dangerous wolf of all of them!"

The video is Shakira's attempt to imagine and showcase what it might feel like to be a she-wolf trapped in a cage, unable to escape and raging — with killer dance moves, of course — against her imprisonment. "I just wanted to express what it feels like for a she-wolf to be in captivity, to be in a golden cage," she explained. "I think I've been in a golden cage most of my life — and now not anymore."

In the midst of filming, Shakira admitted that she felt herself slipping into that dangerous, animalistic territory exemplified by the she-wolf metaphor. "I'm in the cage and I'm going a little bit wild and I get a little carried away and start doing all kinds of outrageous stuff and hanging upside down and doing stuff that wasn't planned," she said. "But it was kind of an improvisation. I just got caught in the moment."

Do you want to see Shakira blush? Ask her about "Twilight." Why would the vampire-and-werewolf film franchise get the superstar singer feeling a bit embarrassed? Is it because the title of her upcoming October album, She Wolf, shares a fondness for hirsute shape-shifters? Nope. Turns out Shakira has a little crush on "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson.

"I love 'Twilight,' " she told MTV News' Tim Kash recently. "I can't say what I love about "Twilight.' "

"Does the first name begin with Robert and the second name end with Pattinson?" Kash wondered aloud.

"No, no, no," said the Colombian-born singer, bursting into laughter. "I'm too old. I can't say those things."

Fighting off a case of the giggles, she added, "I mean, how old is he — 23? 24? ... You are getting me in trouble!"

For the record, RPattz doesn't turn 24 until next May. And the 32-year-old Shakira didn't fall for the man behind Edward Cullen until after she'd written and recorded the first single off the new album, also called "She Wolf." "And then the president of my label said, 'Have you checked out "Twilight"? It's about wolves and vampires and things,' " she said. "And I'm like, 'Ah, that's up my alley. I mean, where is it?' And I watched it and loved it."

But Shakira is a fan of all the big new fantasy movies and, if she had to pick, she'd side with Team Harry Potter over Team Edward. "I mean, 'Harry Potter' has been there for how many years?" she decided. "Pattinson just arrived."

That doesn't mean she wouldn't be interested in a little musical collaboration with RPattz, who plays guitar and piano and recorded vocals for two songs on the "Twilight" soundtrack.

"I've heard he's a great singer and a great musician," she said. "If those rumors are true — yeah, of course, why not?"
